THE COLLECTIONS OF THE GALLERIA NAZIONALE DELLE MARCHE

The Galleria Nazionale delle Marche traces its origins back to the second half of the nineteenth century, when a royal decree established the Marche Institute of Fine Arts in Urbino with the aim of preserving the finest medieval and Renaissance art of the region. Since then, thanks to the work of distinguished directors and to extraordinary donations, acquisitions, and long-term loans, the collections have grown to include masterpieces such as The Flagellation of Christ by Piero della Francesca and La Muta by Raphael.
