This profile is a cast from a marble tondo by Duke Federico originally in the portico built in 1487 for San Francesco church in Mercatello sul Metauro. Together with another commemorative tondo of his ‘brother’ Ottaviano Ubaldini, with whom he was paired, it is now preserved in the church museum. Federico is depicted in profile, according to his wellknown iconography, to hide the scarred part of his face and is dressed as a ‘condottiere’. The reddish colour was probably applied to suggest a painted leather.
