The Galleria Nazionale delle Marche owns eight panels by Vincenzo Nini, of which "Landscape with River", along with three other paintings (inv. D 128, D 129, D 130), form a series of landscapes of equal size. Five of the eight paintings were formerly displayed in the Prayer Room of the Ducal Palace and were placed in storage during Pasquale Rotondi's reorganization. These compositions draw inspiration from Roman landscape painting, introduced to the local context by Giovan Battista, the painter's half-brother. Nini creates a soft, suffused, and rosy atmospheric light, capturing landscapes that are precisely balanced in every detail, from the composition of the planes to the arrangement of nature, figures, and buildings.
