The small painting is a typical example of the painter from Pesaro, one of the most interesting interpreters of 18th century classicism. Active, like most Le Marche artists of that period, also in Rome, he was one of the last followers of Carlo Maratti’s style and was popular with Cardinal Alessandro Albani, nephew of Clement XI of Urbino. This Saint Peter at Prayer is a pendant of a Saint Jerome kept in the Pinacoteca Civica in Ascoli Piceno, a pair of paintings produced for private worship.
