Credenza with ‘a cerquate’ Decoration

The sideboard, which was originally the lower part of the “studiolo d’ebano con la credenza” (ebony studiolo with credenza) mentioned under the date 1599 in the Expense Note written by the Duke, is identical in inlay to the cabinet. The front, decorated with a ‘cerquate’ pattern, consists of two doors that conceal four walnut-veneered drawers. The current layout aims to restore the idea of the original form of this precious piece of furniture.

La credenza, che costituiva in origine la parte inferiore dello "studiolo d'ebano con la credenza" menzionato alla data 1599 nella Nota di spese redatta dal Duca, è identifica nell'intarsio allo stipo. Il fronte decorato "a cerquate" è formato da due ante che nascondono quattro cassetti impiallacciati in legno di noce. L'allestimento attuale vuole restituire l'idea della forma originaria di questo preziosissimo arredo.
