It is a sketch for a statue of the eastern façade of the Holy House of Loreto. In the study, the strong plasticity of the uncovered arm emerges, together with a more casual dynamism in the torsion of the torso compared to the marble, which also features the variation of the feet protruding from the tunic. The Milanese artist recovered Michelangelo’s model of Moses for the tomb of Julius II, merging Tuscan-Roman elements with sculpture from northern Italy, Jacopo Sansovino and the Della Porta family.

La scultura in terracotta costituisce il bozzetto preparatorio per la statua in marmo che il Della Porta scolpisce per la Santa Casa di Loreto. Attribuito precedentemente al Brandani, al Tribolo e a Girolamo Lombardo, il bozzetto è stato assegnato al comasco Della Porta per alcune note di pagamenti ricevuti tra il 1576 ed il 1578.
