Although the old inscriptions on the reverse bear the names of Federico Zuccari and Claudio Ridolfi, these attributions no longer appear tenable in the light of the most recent art-historical research. The attribution of the sheet to Antonio Cimatori, known as il Visacci, appears more convincing, given the evident technical and stylistic affinities with other graphic works by the artist. In this regard, a comparison with the Study for the Conversion of the Prostitute, held in the Galleria Nazionale delle Marche (inv. DIS 299), appears particularly significant.
