Previously associated with the Venetian artist Claudio Ridolfi, this highly finished drawing, brought to an advanced stage of definition, should instead be related to the painting in the sacristy of the church of Santa Maria di Betlém in Sassari, executed by the Roman painter Giuseppe Puglia around 1634. The composition represents a sacred scene arranged in two clearly distinct registers: in the upper zone appear the Madonna and Child, flanked by angels and two saints; below are four adoring figures. A rapid preparatory sketch of the same composition is preserved in the Biblioteca Oliveriana, Pesaro (inv. 567).
