Recorded in the Gallery’s Inventory as an anonymous work from thesixteenth-seventeenth century, the drawing can be attributed to Cimatori on the basis of specific stylistic considerations. The distinctive, finely wrought pen line, which rapidly defines the two figures, is here enriched by the application of brown ink heightened with wash. This technique enabled the artist to achieve a plastic and animated composition through a subtle and carefully calibrated modulation of chiaroscuro. It is worth noting the fame Visacci achieved among local scholars, who on several occasions had the opportunity to praise his particular skill as a pen draughtsman.
