Traditionally considered a pupil of Federico Barocci, Cimatori was also influenced by another famous marchigian artist: Federico Zuccari. Zuccari's influence is clearly evident when analysing his vast graphic production. The subject of this drawing can be identified with the episode of the Christ on the cross and the Virgin appeared to Saint Augustine. Another study for the same composition, much more refined, appeared on the Tuscan art market a few years ago with an incorrect reference to the sienese artist Francesco Vanni (Farsetti Arte, 2014).
